Get ready for the most colorful afternoon of the fall! The Nasher Sculpture Center’s beloved annual family fundraiser, The Great Create, transforms the museum’s sculpture garden into a vibrant, hands-on art playground on Sunday, October 25, from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m., with a special VIP hour beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Each year the Nasher commissions a group of regional artists to dream up interactive art stations for children and families, and this year’s lineup is full of joy: collage, color blocking, felting, beading, papier mâché, marbling, and paper sculptures, all designed for a wide range of ages and interests. Kids get to create side by side with working artists, a rare chance to explore new materials, techniques, and ideas they might not otherwise experience.
The garden party comes with lounge seating, a dance floor, and a photo experience with Picture This Green Screen. Audrey Schott of Backyard Music will lead sing-and-dance-a-long favorites, with additional live music performed by students of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Food and drink favorites include Be Kinder Coffee and Melt Ice Cream, plus a rainbow-inspired menu by Wolfgang Puck Catering with playful spins on kid-friendly treats like Shaky Bag Donuts, Color Wheel Quesadillas, and a Build-Your-Own Dirty Soda Bar, and a full bar for the grown-ups.
Chaired by Tori and Ross Mulford, The Great Create is a ticketed fundraiser whose proceeds directly benefit the Nasher’s education programs, which inspire tens of thousands of children, students, and families every year. As the Nasher’s Director of Learning and Engagement Anna Smith puts it, every ticket helps expand access to high-quality arts education across the community. Mark the calendar and come make something beautiful with the ones you love.
