The Dallas Opera Toasts Love with a New-to-Dallas “Elixir of Love,” Oct 9–17

Cheers to love! The Dallas Opera has opened its 2026/2027 season with a sparkling new-to-Dallas production of Gaetano Donizetti’s beloved comic opera The Elixir of Love, on stage at the Winspear Opera House October 9 through 17, 2026.

The romantic comedy follows Nemorino, a hopeless romantic who swoons for the town’s schoolteacher — even though she barely notices him. When a traveling salesman arrives with a “magical elixir” that promises to win any heart, Nemorino takes a chance. Set in post-war Italy, the story asks whether the lovers will find each other — or whether the elixir is not all it was promised to be.

Soprano Soraya Mafi stars as Adina, opposite “one of the most-awarded singers of the current generation,” Anthony León. The production is co-owned by The Dallas Opera and Palm Beach Opera and was originally designed for and created by the Santa Fe Opera.

Sung in Italian with projected English titles, the opera runs approximately 2 hours and 35 minutes including one intermission. Remaining performances: Sunday, October 11 at 2:00 PM (matinee), Wednesday, October 14, and Saturday, October 17.

Happy City News recommends this joyful, funny classic for a night out in the Dallas Arts District. For tickets, visit the Dallas Opera’s official website.
