Phoenix Reopens Deem Hills Park with a New Playground and Desert Trails

There is fresh good news for families in the northwest Valley. Deem Hills Park, at 5050 W. Andrea Lane in Phoenix, celebrated its grand reopening on Friday, October 16, with a 9 a.m. ribbon cutting hosted by the City of Phoenix to show off a brand-new playground and a round of park improvements for the whole neighborhood to enjoy.

The refreshed park is ready for a full day outdoors. Its official amenity list includes basketball and pickleball courts, tennis and volleyball courts, a soccer field, a dog park, drinking fountains, grills and picnic areas, shade structures and restrooms. The park is open every day from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., so there is time for an early-morning match or an evening play session alike.

The playground is only the front door. Behind it stretches the Deem Hills Recreation Area, almost 1,000 acres of Sonoran Desert known for its unique basalt volcanic rock formations. The 5.7-mile Deem Hills Circumference Trail traverses the entire recreation area and commands excellent views of Phoenix, while the 1.5-mile Ridgeline Trail is the highest in the system, and several shorter trails offer a wide range of distances and difficulties.

With autumn’s cooler mornings settling in, it is the perfect moment to rediscover this corner of north Phoenix: the kids can try the new playground, friends can meet for pickleball, and hikers can finish the day with desert views — a renewed neighborhood park and a wild desert preserve in a single stop.
