Second Saturdays Are for Families: Fuzzy Frenzy Brings Wet Felting to Laguna Gloria on November 14

Austin families get a wonderfully hands-on art morning on Saturday, November 14, when The Contemporary Austin hosts Second Saturdays Are for Families: Fuzzy Frenzy at Laguna Gloria, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free for all ages.

The theme this month is wet felting. Inspired by The Living Temple: The World of Moki Cherry, now on view at the museum’s Jones Center location, families will sink their hands into textiles using wool, water and imagination, discovering how loose fibers transform into something soft, colorful and entirely their own.

Second Saturdays Are for Families takes place on the second Saturday of every month, inviting the whole family to explore new materials, techniques and ideas together. No experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to get a little fuzzy. It is a gentle, joyful way for children and grown-ups to make art side by side, guided by the same spirit of playful experimentation that fills Moki Cherry’s work.

Laguna Gloria, at 3809 West 35th Street, adds its own magic to the morning, with gardens and art by Lake Austin to wander before or after the workshop. Free tickets can be reserved in advance through The Contemporary Austin’s website, and early reservation is a good idea for this popular family series.
