Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis: Big Ideas on Washington Boulevard

In Grand Center, the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis does contemporary art the fearless way: no permanent collection, no velvet ropes — just ever-changing exhibitions by the artists defining the moment, presented free in a striking minimalist building by architect Brad Cloepfil.

Founded in 1980 and in its Washington Boulevard home since 2003, CAM pairs internationally significant shows with deep St. Louis roots. This season that means a homecoming: the museum’s companion presentation of Juanita McNeely (through February 7, 2027) runs concurrently with SLAM’s retrospective of the pioneering St. Louis feminist artist, while CAM’s Project Wall, Great Rivers Biennial and teen programs keep the region’s own artists front and center.

Art here is a conversation, and admission to talk is free.

CAM is at 3750 Washington Boulevard. Exhibitions at camstl.org.
