‘St. Louis at Bat’: 100 Baseball Moments Take the Field at the Missouri History Museum

St. Louis is telling its favorite story this fall, and it is told in box scores, jerseys and cheers. St. Louis at Bat: 100 Moments in Baseball History, the newest exhibition at the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park, opened on October 3 and celebrates more than 165 years of the teams, players, fans and traditions that made this a true baseball city. Best of all, admission is free.

The exhibition counts down 100 moments, starting with the city’s first known game in 1860 and running all the way to the Cardinals’ unforgettable 2011 World Series win. The timing is perfect: this year marks the 100th anniversary of the Cardinals’ first World Series title, in 1926, the first of the club’s 11 championships. Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith helped open the show, a fitting welcome from “The Wizard” himself.

Curator Adam Kloppe, the museum’s public historian, spent four years assembling artifacts and stories never shown together before. Visitors will find record-setting jerseys worn by Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina, the cardboard “fans” from the 2020 pandemic season, and chapters devoted to the St. Louis Browns, the Negro National League’s St. Louis Stars, women’s teams, community leagues and beloved local games like corkball.

And the 100th moment? The museum leaves that one to you, inviting visitors to add their own favorite baseball memory to the exhibition wall. St. Louis at Bat runs through Labor Day 2027 at the Missouri History Museum, 5700 Lindell Boulevard in Forest Park.
