Meet the Rescued Sea Lions: A Family Visit to The Marine Mammal Center

High in the Marin Headlands above Sausalito, The Marine Mammal Center is the world’s largest hospital for ocean mammals – and families can watch the rescue work happen. From viewing platforms, kids observe veterinarians and volunteers caring for seal and sea lion patients, most of them pups, until they’re strong enough to return to the wild.

Exhibits and docents turn the visit into a gentle lesson in ocean kindness: why plastic hurts, what rehabilitation takes and how a released patient earns its second chance. Visits are by reservation and the setting – wild headlands, ocean wind, the bridge in the distance – makes the science feel like an adventure.
