Sharks Under the Bay: A Family Dive at Aquarium of the Bay

At the edge of PIER 39, Aquarium of the Bay puts San Francisco’s wildest residents on display: the fish, sharks and rays that live in the bay itself. Families walk through crystal tunnels as sevengill sharks and bat rays glide overhead, then meet river otters, touch sea stars and watch thousands of anchovies swirl in a silver tornado.

It’s compact – perfect for young kids’ attention spans – and conservation is the happy storyline: this is a Smithsonian-affiliated aquarium where every exhibit teaches how families can help the bay. Pair it with the sea lions barking next door at K-Dock for a full waterfront morning.
