One of North America’s finest orchestras is coming to San Diego. On Thursday, October 29, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal takes the stage at the Jacobs Music Center for a one-night-only special presentation, led by its Music Director Rafael Payare — who also leads the San Diego Symphony.
Greek violin virtuoso Leonidas Kavakos joins the orchestra for Tchaikovsky’s beloved Violin Concerto in D Major, a showcase of soaring lyricism and fiery brilliance that has thrilled audiences for nearly 150 years. The evening opens with Elysium by Canadian-German composer Samy Moussa, a luminous orchestral meditation, and closes with Stravinsky’s The Firebird performed in its complete ballet version — the dazzling score that launched the composer’s career.
It is a rare homecoming of sorts: Payare has led both orchestras in recent seasons, and San Diego audiences will now hear his Montréal ensemble live in the city’s beautifully renovated concert hall at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are available through the Jacobs Music Center box office.
