French music is about to take over downtown San Diego! The San Diego Symphony welcomes renowned conductor Ludovic Morlot to the Jacobs Music Center for “Ravel and Debussy,” a luminous program of French masterworks on Friday, October 16 at 11:00 AM and Saturday, October 17 at 7:30 PM.
The evening opens with Debussy’s dreamy “Nuages” and sparkling “Fêtes” from his Nocturnes, followed by a thrilling showcase for trombone: “Shift,” a concerto by the Symphony’s own composer-in-residence Jimmy López, performed by internationally acclaimed soloist Jörgen van Rijen.
The second half is pure Ravel magic, from the fiery “Alborada del gracioso” to the sun-drenched colors of the “Rapsodie espagnole,” alongside Poulenc’s witty suite from “Les biches.” Come early for a free pre-concert talk with Jimmy López, who will share stories behind the music one hour before each performance.
Two performances, one gorgeous program, and the perfect excuse for a musical weekend in San Diego. Get your tickets and let the French sound wash over you!
