Begin Again Extends at The Old Globe Through October 18 by Popular Demand

Great news for San Diego theatre lovers: the world premiere of Begin Again, the new pre-Broadway musical at The Old Globe, is extending its run by popular demand. After a thrilling response from early audiences, the production will now play through Sunday, October 18, 2026, on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center in beautiful Balboa Park.

Based on the beloved 2013 film written and directed by John Carney (Once, Sing Street), the musical features an original score by Pat Monahan and the band Train — Jerry Becker and Matt Musty — with a book by Jenna Clark Embrey and Molly Beach Murphy, music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Brian Usifer, choreography by David Neumann, and direction by Lorin Latarro.

The story follows Gretta, a gifted but heartbroken songwriter, and Dan, a record producer on the brink of burnout, whose chance encounter in New York City sparks an unexpected collaboration that transforms them both. It is a feel-good celebration of music, second chances, and the courage to start over.

A cast of 19 is led by Emma Busse as Gretta and Patrick Heusinger as Dan, alongside Charlotte MacLeod, Kevin William Paul, Adrienne Walker, Nik Walker, and Casey Whyland. Tickets are on sale now at TheOldGlobe.org or by calling (619) 23-GLOBE — don’t miss San Diego’s chance to see a Broadway-bound world premiere before it heads to New York!
