Kiku: Spotlight on Tradition Blooms at the New York Botanical Garden This Fall

Autumn in New York just got more breathtaking. The New York Botanical Garden presents Kiku: Spotlight on Tradition, a dazzling display of Japanese chrysanthemums that transforms the season’s most beloved flower into pure living art, on view October 31 through November 15, 2026.

The kiku have been carefully trained over the past 11 months by expert horticulturists into incredible shapes and traditional styles, including the legendary ozukuri, or “thousand bloom” — a spectacular feat of plant cultivation that produces hundreds of chrysanthemum flowers from a single stem. Chrysanthemum blooms burst with color in warm, rich autumn hues inside the Bourke-Sullivan Display House of the Nolen Greenhouses for Living Collections, alongside seasonal fall flowers that complement this must-see spectacle.

Don’t miss the Kiku Highlight Weekend on November 7 and 8, from noon to 4 p.m., featuring a thrilling live taiko drumming performance, hands-on crafts for the whole family, and of course plenty of time to wander among the kiku. It’s the perfect way to celebrate fall’s golden colors, learn about centuries-old Japanese horticultural techniques, and spend a joyful day surrounded by beauty.
