Light, Nature and Thoreau: An Interactive Exhibition Opens at the Frist Art Museum

Nashville’s Frist Art Museum has a glowing new reason to visit: Robin Vuchnich: In Search of Thoreau’s Flowers—The Memory of a Season, an interactive, light-based exhibition that turns environmental science into pure visual poetry.

Clarksville-based new-media artist Robin Vuchnich uses projection mapping, video art and creative coding to transform scientific data about our changing world into vivid, luminous imagery — a celebration of nature and biodiversity inspired by Henry David Thoreau’s writings and the plant collections around Walden Pond.

Best of all, the exhibition invites visitors in: it is designed as an interactive experience, so the gallery comes alive around you as light and data dance across the room. It is art that both delights and reminds us why protecting the natural world matters.

In Search of Thoreau’s Flowers is on view from September 25, 2026, through January 3, 2027, in the Gordon Contemporary Artists Project Gallery. The Frist Art Museum is open Monday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 5:30 p.m. (closed Tuesday and Wednesday).
