Holiday magic is on its way back to Washington, D.C.! The Smithsonian just announced that ZooLights, the beloved family-friendly winter tradition, returns to the National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute starting November 20 and running through January 3, 2027.
Every evening, the Zoo transforms into a glowing winter wonderland filled with dazzling animal lanterns, twinkling displays, tasty seasonal treats, and plenty of winter cheer. It’s one of the District’s most cherished holiday outings — a night under the lights where families stroll past glowing animals, warm up with hot chocolate, and soak in the festive spirit of the season.
Members of the Zoo community also get a special treat: exclusive ZooLights Member Nights are set for December 8 and 9, a thank-you celebration just for members and their families.
As always, this holiday favorite pairs perfectly with a day at the Zoo — the pandas, the elephants, the Small Mammal House — all before the lights come on. Mark your calendars, bundle up, and get ready for D.C.’s brightest nights of the year.
