ArBOOretum Month Brings a Spooktacular October to Morris Arboretum & Gardens

October is ArBOOretum month at Morris Arboretum & Gardens! Through October 31, the University of Pennsylvania’s beloved public garden celebrates fall with acres of colorful foliage and a whole month of seasonal fun for the whole family — all included with general admission.

The star of the season is the 19th Annual Scarecrow Walk, and this year’s theme is pure time travel: in honor of America’s 250th anniversary, the scarecrows celebrate the 70s — any 70s! You’ll spot whimsical figures inspired by the 1770s, the 1970s, the 2070s, or any decade ending in “70” from history and beyond. The scarecrows are on display October 1 through November 1, and visitors can vote on-site October 1–18 for their favorites — the top three win cash prizes of $300, $200, and $100.

Don’t miss the Morris Pumpkin Cottage, a 100-square-foot exhibition covered in hundreds of pumpkins of every shape and size, tucked at the end of the Pumpkin Promenade — a trail lined with pumpkins, gourds, and scarecrows. It’s a nod to the days when the area around the Morris was known as “Pumpkintown.” The month also packs in family events like a spooky storytime and costume craft on October 21 and a carnivorous-plant nature crafts session on October 29, where kids can make their own plant monster to take trick-or-treating. Snap your fall photos and enjoy a magical autumn day in Chestnut Hill!
