Pulitzer Winner Topdog/Underdog Takes the Stage at The Old Globe Through October 18

Wonderful news for theatre lovers in San Diego! The Old Globe in Balboa Park is presenting Topdog/Underdog, the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Suzan-Lori Parks — hailed by The New York Times as the greatest American play of the past 25 years — at the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre through October 18, 2026.

Directed by Steve H. Broadnax III, the production stars Elijah Jones and Alano Miller as brothers Lincoln and Booth, two siblings hustling to survive on the street-corner game of three-card monte. By turns funny, provocative and charged with emotion, the play charts the razor-thin line between ambition and self-destruction, testing the brothers’ bond with rivalry, resentment and the elusive promise of the American dream.

“To bring her landmark, Pulitzer Prize-winning masterwork Topdog/Underdog to the Globe is a major moment for our theatre and our audiences,” said the Globe’s Artistic Director Barry Edelstein. The official press opening was October 1 at the Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, and tickets are now on sale at TheOldGlobe.org.

A landmark of American theatre, on stage now in the heart of Balboa Park — San Diego audiences have just a few more days to catch it.
