Safety lessons stick best when they feel like play, and that is exactly the idea behind Play It Safe! at Port Discovery Children’s Museum. On Sunday, November 8 and Monday, November 9, the downtown Baltimore museum teams up with community partners to help families explore how to keep everyone safe — through hands-on fun instead of lectures.
Port Discovery describes community partners joining the museum to make safety fun and engaging for families. Interactive activities and safety demonstrations fill the weekend, giving children a chance to meet the people who protect Baltimore every day, ask questions, and practice smart habits in a setting built entirely for kids.
The partners bring the message to life. The Baltimore City Fire Department is listed among the museum’s community and program partners, and playful, hands-on programming of this kind is what Port Discovery does best: three floors of kid-powered exhibits where climbing, building, splashing and pretending are the curriculum.
Play It Safe! is included with museum admission, so families can pair the safety activities with a full day of play throughout the museum, at 35 Market Place in downtown Baltimore, just steps from the Inner Harbor.
It is a happy pairing: a serious topic, a joyful delivery, and a weekend where Baltimore kids head home a little safer — and with big smiles.
