‘The Blue Whale Story’ at the Saint Louis Science Center Through January 10

The largest animal ever to exist on Earth has a story, and it has come to St. Louis. ‘The Blue Whale Story,’ the interactive traveling exhibition now at the Saint Louis Science Center through January 10, 2027, follows one blue whale’s life — and the remarkable scientific rescue that turned tragedy into discovery.

When a blue whale washed ashore in Newfoundland in 2014, researchers undertook an unprecedented effort to preserve its skeleton and its enormous heart — the first blue whale heart ever preserved — giving science, and now museum visitors, an intimate look at an animal so large its tongue weighs as much as an elephant. Hands-on stations explore how blue whales eat, communicate and survive.

It is the Science Center’s can’t-miss exhibition of the season, sized to awe every age.

‘The Blue Whale Story’ is at the Saint Louis Science Center, 5050 Oakland Avenue. Details at slsc.org.
