The Alamo opened its doors this month to celebrate the Tejano men and women whose courage helped shape Texas. Tejanos at the Alamo, a free family-friendly event held on October 3, honored the contributions of Tejanos to the Texas Revolution and to the larger San Antonio community.
Visitors met local cultural organizations, descendant groups and living historians, and learned the stories of Tejano figures who made an indelible mark on history, including Toribio Losoya, Gregorio Esparza and Juan Seguin. The celebration was part of the Alamo’s commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month at the Shrine of Texas Liberty.
Events like this one remind us that the story of the Alamo belongs to many cultures and many families. If you missed it, keep an eye on the Alamo’s calendar: living-history programs, guided tours and special commemorations continue all year at 300 Alamo Plaza, welcoming more than 1.6 million visitors annually to the heart of San Antonio.
