National Geographic’s Joel Sartore Brings the Photo Ark to Phoenix Zoo for a Wild Good Cause

Calling all wildlife lovers! On Friday, October 16, 2026, the Phoenix Zoo is rolling out the welcome mat for one of the most beloved nature photographers on the planet: Joel Sartore, the National Geographic Explorer and creator of the legendary Photo Ark project.

The special evening, titled “Joel Sartore: An ARCC Toward a Better Future,” raises funds for the future Doornbos Animal Rescue and Care Center (Doornbos ARCC), a dedicated facility that will house wildlife rescued from the illegal animal trafficking trade, providing vital quarantine space, medical treatment, and loving care for confiscated animals.

The night is packed with unforgettable moments: Sartore himself will give an inspiring live presentation, answer questions from the audience, and pose for a close look at his stunning work. Guests will enjoy up-close animal encounters, hors d’oeuvres and beverages, and a visit to the Zoo’s Savanna Gallery in the Savanna Grill, featuring a curated gallery of Photo Ark portraits. Guests can also take home Sartore’s 20th Anniversary Edition National Geographic Photo Ark book for $50.

The 2018 National Geographic Explorer of the Year and a regular contributor to National Geographic Magazine, Sartore brings his trademark humor and Midwestern work ethic to an evening that celebrates the animals we share this planet with — and supports a brand-new rescue center right here in Phoenix. Standard tickets are $125 per person, with the evening running from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Phoenix Zoo.
