Big news for opera lovers: Verdi’s Aida is coming back to the Academy of Music in April 2027 — the first time this beloved masterpiece has been performed at the historic venue in more than two decades, since 2005.
Opera Philadelphia will present a vibrant new co-production helmed by director Kaneza Schaal, starring powerhouse soprano Tiffany Townsend in her role debut as Verdi’s tragic heroine. She’ll be joined by tenor Jonathan Burton as Radamès, bass-baritone Alfred Walker as Amonasro and mezzo-soprano Aubrey Odle as Amneris — all making their company debuts in this production.
With its sweeping love story set in ancient Egypt, majestic choruses and some of the most famous music ever written for the stage, Aida is the perfect opera for first-timers and lifelong fans alike. And true to Opera Philadelphia’s spirit of accessibility, the company’s wildly popular $11 Pick Your Price tickets return for a third year, making a night at the opera easier on the wallet.
April can’t come soon enough. Philadelphia, get ready to fall in love with Aida all over again.
