BalletX Opens Fall Series 2026 With a World Premiere Trip Into Prohibition-Era Philadelphia

Contemporary ballet fans have a joyful date to circle on the calendar: BalletX, Philadelphia’s beloved contemporary ballet company, opens its Fall Series 2026 on November 4 at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre, with performances running through November 15.

The program is a triple bill of pure imagination. It begins with the world premiere of Speakeasy by Loughlan Prior, choreographer in residence at the New Zealand Ballet, whose 2024 BalletX hit Macaroni was hailed by The Philadelphia Inquirer as “a wildly entertaining ride.” This time Prior dives into Prohibition-era Philadelphia — a city of jazz, glamour and delicious danger — with designs by Emma Kingsbury and an original score by Frank Moon.

The evening continues with Christian Denice’s stirring In the Wake, back after its celebrated 2025 premiere, finding healing, memory and connection in the rituals that bind us, set to an original score by Philip Daniel. Amy Hall Garner’s high-energy Switching the Groove closes the night with infectious rhythm and the sheer joy of movement.

Tickets are on sale now, with special moments including a post-show curtain chat on November 5 and the Young Patrons Circle night on November 13. The Saturday, November 7 evening performance is already low on seats, so dance lovers should book early.

For more than twenty years BalletX has made Philadelphia a national home for bold new choreography — Fall Series 2026 is one more reason to celebrate the city’s vibrant arts scene, brought to you by Happy City News.
