KAWS Takes Over the New York Botanical Garden in 2027 with a Garden-Wide Sculpture Spectacle

Get ready, New York: the New York Botanical Garden is preparing the most ambitious art takeover in its history! In summer 2027, internationally renowned artist KAWS will fill all 250 acres of the Garden with more than 24 of his larger-than-life sculptures.

Running May 22 through October 24, 2027, the exhibition will be the largest-scale presentation of KAWS’s work ever staged — and one of the most ambitious exhibitions NYBG has ever mounted. Expect whimsical, contemplative encounters around every corner: iconic characters like COMPANION popping up among the flowers, forests, and glasshouses, including newly commissioned works and pieces never before exhibited in North America.

KAWS is beloved worldwide for his playful monumental sculptures and instantly recognizable cast of characters, born in New York’s graffiti scene and now celebrated in the biggest museums on the planet. This garden-wide show blurs the line between contemporary art and living nature in the most joyful way — the perfect family outing for art lovers, nature lovers, and anyone who just wants to smile.

NYBG members get priority ticket booking and first word on everything KAWS. The Garden also revealed what’s next: a glittering 2027 Orchid Show designed by landscape artists Andy Cao and Xavier Perrot, and PLAY! in summer 2028, a giant interactive playscape by artist Cj Hendry.

Happy City News will be counting down the days to May 2027!
