Good news for art lovers: The Historic New Orleans Collection is celebrating one of the Crescent City’s most beloved creative spirits with a brand-new exhibition, “Bunny Matthews: His Life, Art, and Obsessions,” now on view in the French Quarter.
Bunny Matthews was a legendary New Orleans cartoonist and writer whose unmistakable characters, Vic and Nat’ly, became a fixture of local life and humor. Bold, joyful, and unmistakably New Orleans, his work captured the rhythm of the city like few artists ever have.
The exhibition invites visitors to dive into Matthews’s colorful world, tracing his life and career through his iconic art and obsessions. It is also tied to the first-ever monograph of his work, written by Alison Fensterstock and Michael Tisserand, offering fans an even deeper look at the man behind the pen.
Best of all, the show will be on view through May 9, 2027, so there is plenty of time to plan a visit — and admission to The Historic New Orleans Collection is free every day. A perfect, feel-good stop in the heart of the French Quarter.
