Silver is having its moment in Houston, and the spotlight couldn’t shine brighter. The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft is celebrating its 25th anniversary with “A Material Inheritance,” a radiant new exhibition that explores silver as both material and metaphor, on view in the Main and Front Galleries through January 30, 2027.
The most reflective element on Earth takes center stage in works that trace how silver changed the way humans see and remember themselves. From the mirrors and cameras it made possible to the coins, ceremonial objects, jewelry, and treasured heirlooms it shaped, the exhibition reveals silver as a material woven through centuries of art, science, and culture.
Visitors will discover an exciting range of pieces by artists including Shane R. Hendren, Edward Lane McCartney, Jaydan Moore, Leah Ying Lin, and Anjali Srinivasan. The works span traditional metalsmithing and jewelry making alongside experimental glass, ceramic, and kinetic media, showing how contemporary artists are giving this ancient metal a thrilling new life.
Best of all, admission is always free, making this glittering anniversary celebration an easy and joyful stop for families, art lovers, and the curious. Find the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft at 4848 Main Street in the Museum District, open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM.
