Houston is about to host an exhibition generations in the making. The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston presents Of Light and Air: Winslow Homer from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, on view November 1, 2026 through February 7, 2027 in the Law Building — and art lovers won’t want to miss it.
The show brings together nearly 50 watercolors plus a selection of oils, drawings and prints — the largest collection of Homer’s watercolors in the world, drawn from MFA Boston’s renowned holdings. Because of their light sensitivity, these works have not been displayed together in almost half a century. Houston is the exhibition’s only travel venue.
The exhibition follows Homer’s full artistic journey, from childhood drawings to his final canvas, Driftwood (1909), with highlights including The Blue Boat (1892) and Leaping Trout (1889).
Members get a first look at the preview October 30–31. A once-in-a-generation chance to see America’s master of light and water, right here in Houston. Plan your visit at mfah.org.
