Georgia O'Keeffe, My Backyard, 1945, Charles Butt Collection — The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

Houston art lovers have a brand-new reason to visit the Museum District this fall. The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston will host American Modernism from the Charles Butt Collection, the first exhibition ever organized from the collection of Texas native and philanthropist Charles Butt, on view from October 25, 2026 through January 18, 2027.

The show brings together more than 90 works by icons of American art, including Stuart Davis, Georgia O’Keeffe, Jacob Lawrence, Thomas Hart Benton, Jackson Pollock, Joan Mitchell and Andrew Wyeth, alongside Texas artists such as Everett Gee Jackson and Mary Bonner. It is a once-in-a-generation chance to see one of the country’s great private collections of American modernism presented to the public for the very first time, right here in Houston.

With its mix of household names and exciting rediscoveries, the exhibition reflects the many histories of American creativity through one collector’s passionate eye. Mark your calendar: this is the art event of the season in Houston.
