Skate Season Returns: Family Ice Skating at Campus Martius Park

The surest sign that winter is coming to Detroit? The ice is back at Campus Martius. The Rink at Campus Martius Park typically opens in November with the city’s tree lighting celebration, welcoming skaters to glide beneath downtown’s towering Christmas tree in the heart of Woodward Avenue.

For families, it’s an easy win: skate rentals are available on site, the rink welcomes wobbly first-timers alongside show-offs, and hot drinks wait at the park’s seasonal stands. Sessions run daily through the winter months, with extended hours on weekends and school breaks.

Make an afternoon of it — skate, warm up with cocoa, then walk to dinner in Greektown or the downtown core. The Downtown Detroit Partnership posts opening dates and session times each fall at downtowndetroit.org.
