Opera Baltimore: Grand Voices in a Gilded Age Mansion

Opera sounds even grander under a mansion’s chandeliers. Opera Baltimore presents its productions and concerts at the Engineers Club in the Garrett-Jacobs Mansion, the Gilded Age Mount Vernon showpiece whose marble halls and ballroom make every performance feel like an occasion from another century.

The company carries forward Baltimore’s long operatic tradition with full productions of beloved classics, concert performances and one of the city’s favorite rites — its free community programming and young-artist showcases that introduce new audiences to the art form. The intimacy of the room is the magic: voices up close, stories at arm’s length.

Pair an evening performance with dinner on Mount Vernon Place and Baltimore feels very European indeed.

Opera Baltimore performs at 11 West Mount Vernon Place. Season at operabaltimore.org.
