Every summer, Baltimore throws itself an art party that takes over whole neighborhoods — and nobody pays a dime to get in. Artscape, produced by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts since 1982, is America’s largest free outdoor arts festival: blocks of visual art, live music stages, performance, installations and artist markets stretching across Mount Royal and Bolton Hill.
The festival’s spirit is pure Baltimore — national headliners sharing the weekend with neighborhood marching bands, monumental sculpture parked on city streets, and hundreds of thousands of neighbors dancing in front of stages framed by the skyline. Generations of Baltimore kids have taken their first art memories home from Artscape.
Watch for the next edition’s dates and lineup each spring — and plan to walk, because the whole district becomes the gallery.
Artscape fills the Mount Royal/Bolton Hill area each summer. Details at artscape.org.
