Atlanta is celebrating a major art moment this fall! The High Museum of Art has unveiled Martin Puryear: Nexus, the most comprehensive survey of the celebrated sculptor’s work in nearly two decades, and Atlanta is the exclusive Southeast venue for this landmark exhibition.
On view from September 25, 2026 through January 17, 2027, the exhibition brings together more than 70 works spanning five decades of Puryear’s remarkable career. Visitors can discover breathtaking sculptures in wood, glass, marble, and cast bronze, along with rarely shown drawings and prints that reveal the depth of his creative journey.
Since the 1970s, Martin Puryear has captivated art lovers with beautiful, thought-provoking works inspired by global culture, social history, and the natural world. From drawings created during his Peace Corps service in Sierra Leone to sculptures featured at the 2019 Venice Biennale, Nexus follows his lifelong exploration of form, material, and masterful craft.
Critically acclaimed during its earlier stops at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Cleveland Museum of Art, the exhibition now makes its final stop right here in Atlanta. It is a wonderful opportunity to experience the quiet poetic beauty of one of America’s most important living artists.
Plan your visit and let the High Museum inspire your fall season!
