Kansas City began along the Missouri River, and Berkley Riverfront is where that story feels alive again. Just north of downtown, on the south bank of the river between the Kit Bond and Heart of America bridges, this green expanse is an urban oasis designed for recreation, connection and simple, happy pauses in the middle of the city.
The park’s own invitation is hard to resist: stroll the two-mile trail, spread a picnic by the water, try the urban boulder or pose with its larger-than-life murals. Wide lawns, river views and room to breathe make it an easy outing for walkers, runners, cyclists and families alike, with public transit connections and parking close by.
Port KC, which leads the riverfront’s revival, describes the wider 55-acre Berkley Riverfront as Kansas City’s front yard. Trails and new park space keep growing around anchors such as CPKC Stadium, home of the Kansas City Current, turning a once-forgotten stretch of riverbank into a walkable neighborhood of homes, gathering places and green space.
Best of all, Berkley Riverfront asks very little of you. Come for a sunrise walk, a lunchtime picnic or a golden-hour stroll, and let the wide Missouri remind you why this city started right here.
