Laumeier Sculpture Park: Monumental Art Under Open Sky

In Laumeier Sculpture Park, the gallery walls are oak trees and the ceiling is the Missouri sky. This 105-acre park in Sunset Hills, opened in 1976, is one of America’s great open-air museums: more than 60 monumental sculptures scattered through lawns, woods and walking trails, free to everyone, every day.

The collection’s icon is Alexander Liberman’s ‘The Way’ — a soaring red assembly of salvaged oil tanks that has become a symbol of St. Louis art — alongside works by Mark di Suvero, Beverly Pepper and dozens more, plus rotating exhibitions in the park’s indoor galleries and a beloved calendar of art fairs and family programs.

Pack a picnic, follow the trails, and let the kids climb around (the looking, at least) America’s biggest art.

Laumeier Sculpture Park is at 12580 Rott Road in St. Louis County. Details at laumeier.org.
