There is nothing else like it on Earth: 11,000 seats under the oak trees of Forest Park, a stage the size of a city block, and a century of St. Louis summers. The Muny — the Municipal Theatre of St. Louis — is America’s oldest and largest outdoor musical theatre, producing seven full-scale Broadway musicals every summer since its first full season in 1919.
The Muny’s magic is its scale married to its welcome: rotating scenery and casts of hundreds, a resident orchestra, and the beloved tradition of nearly 1,500 free seats at the back, claimed first-come each night as they have been for generations. Season 108 in 2026 brought ‘Hairspray,’ ‘Shrek,’ ‘Newsies,’ ‘Meet Me in St. Louis’ and more to the great bowl on Theatre Drive.
When the fireflies rise over Forest Park and the overture starts, there is no better seat in American theatre — and eleven thousand people know it.
The Muny is at 1 Theatre Drive in Forest Park. Season information at muny.org.
