Seattle’s art scene is getting a beautiful new reason to celebrate this fall! The Frye Art Museum opens My Body Is a Basket on October 24, 2026, a vibrant exhibition honoring the creativity and heritage of three extraordinary Indigenous artists: Brenda Mallory, Danielle Morsette, and Sara Siestreem.
Based in Washington and Oregon, these artists push textile traditions into unexpected and joyful terrain. Across sculpture, weaving, and mixed-media painting, basketry becomes both method and metaphor — from the tight weft of a wool tapestry to the bold bundling of found fibers, every piece tells a story of ancestral knowledge transformed into something distinctly of this time and place.
The exhibition arrives in dialogue with the nationally touring An Indigenous Present, which also lands at the Frye this fall, grounding a wider conversation about modern and contemporary Indigenous art in the Pacific Northwest. Organized by Faith Brower and independent curator Asia Tail of the Cherokee Nation, the show invites visitors to experience how tradition and innovation weave together on one canvas.
My Body Is a Basket runs through April 11, 2027 at the Frye Art Museum in Seattle — a perfect fall outing for art lovers and families alike.
