Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) is home this season to one of the most exciting photography exhibitions on view anywhere in the United States: Rebels + Icons: The Photography of Janette Beckman. Open since May 15 and running through September 8, 2027, the show gathers 700 photographs spanning four decades of work by the artist whose lens has defined how the world sees punk, hip hop, street culture, fashion and youth movements.
The exhibition brings together rare archival prints, newly unearthed images and contemporary collaborations, tracing the energy of people and moments that reshaped contemporary culture — often long before the rest of the world noticed. Beyond the photographs, visitors step into immersive installations, films and interactive experiences that reveal Beckman’s process and the stories behind some of her most iconic shots. The timing is special, too: the show arrives as the world celebrates 50 years of punk in the UK, a movement Beckman documented from its earliest days.
A leading nonprofit museum in the heart of Seattle, MoPOP is known for turning creative expression into a life-changing force, and this landmark exhibition is a perfect example. Tickets and details are available at mopop.org — a wonderful reason to plan a cultural getaway to the Emerald City this fall or any time next year.
