Shelby Bottoms Greenway and Nature Park: Nashville’s Wild Side on the Cumberland

Need fresh air without leaving the city? Shelby Bottoms Greenway and Nature Park gives you more than 1,000 acres of riverside wilderness just minutes from downtown.

Set along the Cumberland River on Nashville’s east side, this urban nature park features paved and unpaved trails for walking, running, and biking, a nature center with hands-on exhibits for kids, wetlands full of herons and turtles, and shady groves that feel worlds away from traffic.

It’s a happy place for families, joggers, cyclists, birdwatchers, and anyone who wants to slow down. The greenway connects all the way across the river to downtown, so an easy bike ride can turn into a full-day adventure.

Seasonal events like guided nature walks and family programs at the nature center make every visit feel new — and it’s all free.

Tip: bring binoculars — the wetlands are a birdwatcher’s dream, especially in the early morning.
