Have you ever dreamt you were flying? At the Adventure Science Center in Nashville, that dream fills a 63-foot dome. The Sudekum Planetarium is presenting Dream to Fly, a poetic fulldome journey through the history of flight that has been delighting families in the planetarium’s current lineup of shows.
The film follows the pioneers who refused to stay on the ground: Leonardo da Vinci sketching flying machines centuries ahead of his time, the Montgolfier brothers rising into the sky in their balloon, and the Wright brothers turning a windswept beach into the birthplace of aviation. Along the way it shares both the successes and the failures that each generation learned from.
Dream to Fly traces the biggest milestones on the road to the skies, from early technological breakthroughs to commercial and military aviation, and on to the moment humans stopped just gliding among the clouds and started reaching for the stars. Produced by The Heavens of Copernicus Productions in Warsaw, Poland, it pairs rich fulldome visuals with beautiful music and a lyrical narration.
At 33 minutes and recommended for elementary-age children and up, it is an easy, inspiring planetarium outing for families visiting the nonprofit science center at 800 Fort Negley Boulevard. Captions are available too: just ask a team member as you enter the planetarium.
