Get ready for a wild morning of discovery! On Friday, October 16, from 10 am to 2 pm, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County invites everyone to a special one-day, hands-on celebration honoring the incredible contributions of Black scientists and conservationists in the field of mammalogy.
This joyful event amplifies the global Black Mammalogists Week initiative, a movement started in 2020 to connect current and aspiring Black mammalogists across the Diaspora. Whether you are a student, an educator, or simply a nature lover, it is the perfect invitation to find community, celebrate diverse voices in science, and spark a lifelong passion for the natural world.
Visitors can step into the shoes of a real researcher: learn how to set up camera traps to study wildlife, meet live animals up close, chat one-on-one with mammalogists and conservationists, make a mini diorama, enjoy a career panel and a storytime, and explore the Museum’s world-class mammal collections all day long.
The celebration takes place at the Natural History Museum, 900 Exposition Blvd., Los Angeles. The event is free with paid museum admission and free for members. All are welcome — bring your curiosity!
