Los Angeles families, turn up the volume on art history! The Getty has launched season two of “If Objects Could Talk,” its award-winning family podcast that brings artworks from the museum’s collection to life for curious young minds — with ten brand-new weekly episodes now streaming.
Season one took listeners inside the Getty Villa’s antiquities collection; this season dives into the quirky histories behind objects at the Getty Center, from the Middle Ages to the late 19th century. The first episode is “hosted” by a teeny-tiny flea perched on the glass slide of a Rococo French microscope, and upcoming stories feature a traveling snail riding a nearly nine-foot-tall bronze vase, a griffin on a chandelier spilling centuries-old gossip, a gravity-defying bronze horse, and Purrquoise — an adventurous blue cat lovingly named by public vote.
Dynamic voice actors and immersive sound design turn each object into a storyteller, offering screen-free entertainment perfect for the ride to school, bedtime or a family road trip. Along the way, kids build listening comprehension and vocabulary and spark a lifelong curiosity about art — and as the Getty team promises, it’s super funny too.
