Storytimes and Discovery: Family Programs at the Detroit Public Library

The most beautiful building in Detroit might be a library — and it’s built for families. The Detroit Public Library’s Main Library, a white-marble landmark across from the DIA on Woodward Avenue, runs a full calendar of children’s storytimes, craft programs, reading clubs and family events through its children’s library services.

Across the system’s branches — from the historic Skillman and Wilder branches to neighborhood favorites in every corner of the city — kids can join homework help, STEM clubs and summer reading challenges. The HYPE Center at Main gives teens their own creative space with media labs and gaming.

Everything is free with a library card, which is free for Detroit residents. Browse the events calendar at detroitpubliclibrary.org and make the library part of your family’s weekly rhythm.
