Young People’s Family Concerts: The DSO’s Gateway to Great Music

Every orchestra lover starts somewhere — and in Detroit, thousands started at a Young People’s Family Concert. The Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s family series at Orchestra Hall is designed for young listeners: shorter programs, lively hosts, pre-concert activities in the lobby and music chosen to spark wonder.

Recent seasons have paired classics with storytelling, instrument petting zoos and hands-on fun in the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center’s atrium. It’s relaxed, welcoming and affordable — the kind of Saturday morning that quietly changes a kid’s life.

Family concerts are scheduled across the season at 3711 Woodward Avenue. Check dso.org for this season’s dates, and arrive early for the lobby activities — they’re half the fun.
