Grand Rapids Ballet’s ‘The Nutcracker’ Dances into the Detroit Opera House November 28–29

The holiday dance season opens in Detroit with a Michigan collaboration to treasure. Grand Rapids Ballet joins the Detroit Opera Orchestra for The Nutcracker at the Detroit Opera House on November 28 and 29, 2026 — Thanksgiving weekend.

Tchaikovsky’s score, performed live by the opera’s own orchestra, lifts Clara’s journey from the Stahlbaum Christmas party to the Land of Sweets. Grand Rapids Ballet, Michigan’s only professional ballet company, brings its acclaimed production across the state for three performances: Saturday matinee and evening, and a Sunday matinee.

The Detroit Opera House, a gilded 1922 jewel at 1526 Broadway, is half the magic. Tickets for all three performances are at detroitopera.org.
