Friday Night Live! The DIA’s After-Hours Music Scene

On Friday nights, the Detroit Institute of Arts stays up late — and Detroit shows up. Friday Night Live! keeps the museum open until 9 p.m. with live music threaded through the galleries, turning the Great Hall and Rivera Court into the city’s most cultured night out.

The series showcases Detroit’s deep bench of talent — jazz trios, string players, soul singers and global sounds — with the audience drifting between performances and masterpieces. Add drawing in the galleries, special exhibition hours and a cash bar, and Friday at the DIA becomes an easy weekly ritual.

Best of all for locals: general admission is free for residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. The DIA is at 5200 Woodward Avenue; this week’s lineup is at dia.org.
