Denver Kids, Get Ready: “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! The Musical!” Flies into DCPA on October 23

One of the funniest birds in children’s literature is about to take over a Denver stage! The Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) has announced the full cast and creative team for Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! The Musical!, its new Theatre for Young Audiences production based on the beloved books by Mo Willems.

Denver-based actor Bryan J. Black will star as the determined, delightfully mischievous Pigeon, joined by Randy Chalmers, Matt Zambrano, Alex Campbell, Joanie Brosseau-Rubald, Taylor Baker, Michaela Murray and Brian Watson. The show is directed by Allison Watrous, DCPA’s Executive Director of Education and Community Engagement, with musical direction by Jordan Ortman, choreography by Diana Dresser, scenic design by Lisa M. Orzolek, costume design by Kevin Copenhaver and puppet design by Chris Campbell.

Performances begin October 23 and run through December 20, 2026, at the Randy Weeks Conservatory Theatre. Specially tailored for PreK through 3rd grade students, this hilariously interactive stage adventure bursts with playful songs, vibrant characters, puppets and laugh-out-loud surprises — inviting children and grown-ups alike to sing, shout and laugh along.

DCPA’s Theatre for Young Audiences program has already delighted more than 210,000 young theatregoers in its first eight years, and this season’s flock of families is sure to add to the magic. Tickets, seat maps and pricing are available on the show detail page at denvercenter.org.
