The Denver Art Museum is about to open a fascinating window into the largest Indigenous empire of the Americas. Intimately Bound: Gender in the Inca World arrives on November 22, 2026, exploring Andean duality through Inca ideas about gender during the empire’s rapid expansion between 1438 and 1532.
For the Incas, the world was alive, and everything carried a fluid gender identity seeking complementary pairs in balance. This exhibition brings that worldview to life through extraordinary works, revealing a culture that celebrated harmony between opposites.
Organized by the Denver Art Museum and curated by Dr. Georgi Kyorlenski of the Mayer Center for Ancient American Art, the exhibition will be on view on Level 4 of the Martin Building and is included with general museum admission. It is made possible with support from the Mayer Center endowment, the Annual Fund Leadership Campaign, and the SCFD.
Mark your calendar for November 22 and experience an exhibition that connects us with one of history’s most remarkable civilizations. Visit the museum’s official website for details.
