Where a shopping mall once stood, Columbus now gathers on grass. Columbus Commons turned the heart of downtown into a nine-acre green: a great lawn for concerts and movie nights, gardens, a reading room, and a hand-carved carousel that spins pure nostalgia for a dollar a ride.
The park hosts the Columbus Symphony’s Picnic with the Pops all summer, free fitness classes, food truck festivals and the city’s beloved Commons for Kids days. Its pavilion and gardens frame the skyline like a living room with a view.
Office workers picnic at noon; families spread blankets by evening. This is what a downtown park is supposed to be.
Columbus traded a mall for a meadow — and the whole city moved in.
