Chicago’s Griffin Museum of Science and Industry has unveiled its newest major permanent exhibit, Powering the Future, a hands-on journey through the energy that shapes our daily lives today and tomorrow.
The exhibit opened May 8, 2026, in the Museum’s South Balcony — a space fully reimagined for the first time in more than 25 years. Visitors can turn their own potential energy into kinetic energy on large-scale interactives, build their own working power grids, explore how gas, electricity and batteries shape the world, and discover careers in the energy field and paths toward a more sustainable future.
A highlight is the ComEd Coil, part of an experience built with insights from researchers, engineers and energy leaders. “Powering the Future reflects our commitment to exploring the science behind energy, not just as it exists today, but as it must evolve to meet the challenges of tomorrow,” said Dr. Chevy Humphrey, the Museum’s president and CEO.
The exhibit is included with Museum admission and is a great family destination this fall at the Museum’s iconic South Side campus on Chicago’s lakefront.
