Charlotte Pride: A Festival of Culture, Color and Belonging

Each August, Uptown Charlotte dresses in every color at once. Charlotte Pride — founded in 2001 and now the largest LGBTQ+ festival and parade in the Carolinas — draws some 200,000 people to two days of main-stage music, drag artistry, community vendors and a parade down Tryon Street that ranks among the South’s great civic spectacles.

The festival is culture as much as celebration: local artists and national headliners share the stage, the city’s nonprofits and congregations line the route, and the whole weekend runs on a distinctly Charlotte blend of Southern hospitality and full-throated joy. Year-round, the organization supports the region’s LGBTQ+ community with programs, scholarships and arts showcases.

For a city that prides itself on welcome, Pride weekend is the proof — loud, proud and beautifully Uptown.
