On the Rose Kennedy Greenway, Boston’s carousel is one of a kind: instead of horses, children ride hand-carved animals native to New England – a lobster, a cod, a harbor seal, a peregrine falcon and a sea turtle, each sculpted from local children’s drawings and bursting with personality. The ride spins under a glass canopy near the harbor, lit like a jewel at dusk.
Around it, the Greenway unrolls lawns, splash fountains, food trucks and gardens across downtown – the carousel is simply its happiest doorway. At a few dollars a ride, it’s the easiest joy in the city.
